Very few shoes achieve such cult status like the patent leather Campari Mary Janes by Manolo Blahnik. As SJP as Carrie Bradshaw in season 4 of Sex and the City once said with ecstatic glee when raiding Vogue’s closet and feasting her eyes upon these beauties “I thought that these were an urban shoe myth!”
This particular model of shoe was designed by Manolo Blahnik back in 1994 when he was going against his more baroque creations from the early 1990’s and had decided to go more minimalistic. It is a favorite of Kate Moss and was only briefly available in 1994 to buy by the general public. Until just a few years ago, when Manolo decided to sell them again for £495.
Manolo explained his creation thus “It started off with the idea of a children’s Mary Jane, but then I made it sexy… pointed toe, high heel – and in black patent with grosgrain trim!”
And indeed I squealed like a little “child” when I received my package from the UK and saw some of the most beautiful pair of shoes I have ever laid my eyes on.
Classic, corporate, sophisticated and grown up, plus in delicious patent leather from Italy that smells like Heaven when you take them out of that sacred packaging, I feel both put together and ready to face the World when I put on these babies!
Indeed, as Carrie Bradshaw once famously said “… if they don’t fit, so God help me I am going to wear them anyway!”
